Joaquin Contreras, President / Owner

Joaquin started his career in the HVAC industry as a service tech in the Coachella Valley over 20 years ago, after completing a certification course at College of the Desert. He later served on the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technical Advisory Committee at C.O.D. Over the last 20 years Joaquin has been involved in installing, servicing, balancing, supervising and managing tens of thousands HVAC systems. His experience has taken him from residential new construction, multi million dollar custom homes to various types of commercial buildings. He has been responsible for developing quality service departments as well as managing residential new construction HVAC companies. In 2004 Joaquin, along with 2 partners created JBS Mechanical. Joaquin is the president and owner of one of the most respected HVAC companies in Southern California. Joaquin is well known in the industry for hard work, integrity, and customer satisfaction.

Joaquin and his wife of 30 years, Nancy, reside in Lake Arrowhead. Joaquin and Nancy have 2 children, Casey and Kristin, and the most beautiful granddaughter, Harlyee Faith. Casey and Kristin are also employed at JBS.

In Joaquin’s free time he enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, playing golf and reading biblical books.

Jeffrey Decker, PhD, Chairman of the Board / Owner

A founding owner of JBS Mechanical, Jeff brings several years of high-level management experience to JBS through his previous role as a senior-level executive in the insurance industry. Jeff is a highly educated man with a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School/University, M.B.A. & B.A. in business from Kent State University.

His teaching career includes that of professor and director of the Executive Management and MBA programs at the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management. Dr. Decker received the Harry S. Nerhood award for teaching excellence at Whittier College in 1997. In addition, he has taught at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management. He is currently a professor at Biola University and has a consulting business. Jeff travels the world to consult with and advise high profile corporations and universities on business ethics.

Jeff and his wife Susan have 3 grown children and 1 grandchild. Jeff is very active in his church and community. Jeff is a very competitive sportsman and enjoys reading.

Tom Babnick, Chief Financial Officer

Appointed Chief Financial officer with JBS Mechanical in November 2006, Tom oversees all accounting and finance functions. Tom comes to JBS with an impressive background in finance. Tom has a B.A. in Accounting & Finance and an MBA from Cal State University, Fullerton. Over the last 28 years Tom has served as the Director of financial planning & analysis for Disneyland. Tom has brought great financial insight and expertise to JBS Mechanical.

Tom and his wife, Mary, have 6 children and 5 grandchildren. In Tom’s spare time he enjoys horseback riding and playing with his grandkids. Tom also serves on the board of Detkey Dom Partners as finance chairman. Detkey Dom is a company that promotes the adoption of children from Russia.

Kimberly Sico, Operations Manager

Kim has been in the HVAC construction industry for over 8 years. In that time, she has worked with superintendents, has been an options coordinator, contract administrator, mechanical designer and sales consultant. As one of the original employees of JBS Mechanical, Kim quickly became a Jack of all Trades. After exhibiting strong organizational and leadership skills as well as hard work and dedication, Kim was promoted to Operations Manager in 2006. Since becoming the Operations Manager her primary focus has been on strong communication within, as well as with JBS customers and “getting the job done.”

Kim holds a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from California Baptist University and formerly held a real estate license.

Kim’s favorite thing is being an auntie to her niece, Keira. She also prefers to spend her free time with family, friends, going to the beach and Angels baseball.

Rick Avila, Customer Service Manager

Rick began his HVAC career 17 years ago after graduating from North American Heating and Air Conditioning Trade School. Rick began in the industry as a start-up tech, in 7 short years Rick quickly climbed his way through the ranks to be promoted to a service manager. Over the past 10 years Rick has been responsible for 3 different multi-million dollar companies’ service divisions. Rick came to JBS in 2003 after working for Joaquin at 2 previous employers. Rick’s primary focus is on customer satisfaction.

Rick has his EPA license and is a certified technician for multiple equipment manufactures along with his recent Nate Certification.

Rick and his wife Sonia have been married for 13 years and have 3 sons, Joseph, Christopher and Jacob. Rick enjoys playing softball, camping and most importantly spending time with his family. Rick is also an avid Chargers football and Angels baseball fan.

Jeff Johnson, Replacement Sales

Jeff began his career in HVAC at age 16 as a duct installer. Since then he has been involved in several utility programs helping thousands of So Cal residents save energy. Over twenty years later, he continues to focus on total energy savings for our clients.

Jeff and Nancy have been married for 11 years and have been blessed with two children, Jacob and  Hanah. Jeff enjoys surfing, playing golf, and entertaining his children.

Jeff holds a State of CA license for Home Improvement Salesmen.
